Join us for Camping & Contemplation, an overnight camping experience in the serene Australian bush, on 14–15 December 2024. Together, we will explore discussions and reflections inspired by Imam al-Ghazali’s profound work, Kitab at-Tafakkur (The Book of Reflection), under the guidance of Shaykh Ahmed El Azhary.
A journey of physical endurance, mental resilience, and spiritual enlightenment, guided by the timeless wisdom of Surah al-Mulk.
"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason."
[Al-Quran: Ali Imran, 190]
For millennia, humans have always marvelled at the beauty of nature. The feeling of wonderment binds us to the rest of creation and connects us to the Creator. However, with the advent of modern technology and the pursuit of a comfortable life, we have become detached from nature.
All these luxuries come at a hefty cost. Despite living in the most comfortable time in history, we are facing a mental health crisis. Rates of anxiety and depression are skyrocketing, and many researchers point to our detachment from nature as one of the leading causes.
Qaswa Quest is about connecting with the Creator through exploring creation. By venturing out and immersing ourselves in nature, we can rediscover a sense of wonder. Each step in the bush brings us closer to the Divine.
It's about growing mentally, physically and spiritually stronger together through outdoor activities from hiking, camping and bush-crafting.
The 20/5/3 Rule
To build resilience, we aim to spend at least:
20 minutes outdoors every day: This can be as simple as walking to work, the grocery store, or school. It doesn't need to be big or fancy; you just need to be outside your house or office.
5 hours in nature every month: Spend 1-2 hours every week in a natural setting. This could be a walk in the nearest park or a bush walk or hike.
3 days off-grid every year: Once a year, aim to spend at least 3 days camping off-grid. You'll notice a positive difference in your mental health when you return.
