The Walkabout is an ancient rite of passage for the traditional owners of Australia. Historically, young Aboriginal men would embark on this solitary journey to survive in the unforgiving Australian outback. It is a quest both spiritual and physical, traversing the sacred ancestral lands.
Drawing inspiration from this ancient practice, Qaswa Quest invites 15 young men to undertake their own Walkabout through the Australian bush. These participants will ruck (hike with heavy rucksacks) approximately 20 kilometres, camp with minimal shelter, prepare their own meals, and learn essential survival and bushcraft skills. Throughout the journey, they will delve into the profound teachings of Surah al-Mulk, exploring its meanings and lessons.
This Walkabout will be a journey of physical endurance, mental resilience, and spiritual enlightenment, guided by the timeless wisdom of Surah al-Mulk.
What to expect from the Walkbout?
This is not a wellness retreat - it is about embracing discomfort to learn Sabr (patience) and Shukr (gratitude). It involves long rucks, cold nights, hard-work and a lot of fun.
Throughout this 2-day program, participants will learn:
Survival priorities and what is important
Simple knots and cordage
How to set up a tarp and construct a simple emergency shelter
Simple and effective fire lighting techniques (modern methods)
How to collect water and make it safe to drink
Camp cooking
Bush hygiene
